Lincoln Kachidza Foundation

Lincoln Kachidza (1942 - 2012) was born in Salisbury in what was then known as Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). After finishing secondary school, he took an apprenticeship as an Aircraft Engineering Technician at Shell BPHe, moved from aircraft fueling to petrochemical analysis in the laboratory, and finally to Shell’s headquarters in Harare and Blantyre. During this time, he gained a reputation as a philanthropist, quietly paying school fees for children of the destitute and blind. In return, all he asked was that those he helped do the same for others in need in the future.

Following his passing in 2012, his extensive art collection, consisting of sculptures and paintings, remained in London where he had lived in the years prior to his death. Today, the collection has grown as his daughter, Patti, has continued the family tradition of collecting Shona art. So that her father's legacy of helping may be maintained, selected pieces in the collection are sold to raise money to fund the scholarship programme for bright, needy students.

It is against this background that advocate Patti Kachidza formed the Lincoln Kachidza Foundation in honour of her late father who routinely dedicated part of his earnings to pay for the education of the less privileged and to break the chain of generational poverty. Patti serves alongisde Arthur Gwagwa as Trustees for the Foundation. They believe 'No child should be left behind.’

To date Lincoln Kachidza Foundation has contributed towards the education of more than 40 students in Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Foundation provided funds for students from GCSE to University, studying courses from pharmacy and medicine to law and fashion.

The Foundation is very proud of the students that have been selected for the scholarship on account of their outstanding academic performance and their compelling personal circumstances. These are the future leaders, movers, shakers and doers.
